As readers of
The Summoner know, on the solstice — the Hawthorn Moon — Tris must challenge Jared’s dark mage Arontala in order to stop the rebirth of the Obsidian King. The Blood King chronicles that battle, as well as the perilous months leading up to it. In honor of the Hawthorn Moon, we’re rolling out a sneak peek at The Blood King on this site and on seven partner sites around the world —
ChroniclesOfTheNecromancer.com,
Bookloons.com,
FantasyHotlist.Blogspot.com,
DarkAnimus.com,
InfinityPlus.co.uk and
SFSignal.com. Content and contests differ from site to site, so be sure to visit them all!
As part of our sneak peek, you’ll find three different interviews with
Gail (and with Tris and Jared!), two different excerpts from The Blood King plus an audio reading, a new podcast, and contests to win signed copies of The Summoner.
We hoped to have the cover art for The Blood King by Michael Komarck in time for the event, but good things take time, and it’s not quite ready yet. We’re sure it will be as brilliant as Michael’s first art for The Summoner, and definitely worth waiting for! So stay tuned — we’ll post it just as soon as we can!
Plus — Gail will be live online on MSN and AOL instant messaging throughout June 21 so you can ask questions! On MSN, she’s
GailZMartin@hotmail.com, and on AOL she’s ProWriterCOTN.

For those of you who can’t get enough
Bitterwood action,
James Maxey has constructed this
mini-site for your viewing pleasure.
As James says himself: "This blog will collect all the news about my new novel Bitterwood, slated for release in late June, 2007 by Solaris Books. The book has been described as "a futuristic Robin Hood where dragons are the ruling class." It's the story of Bant Bitterwood as he's reaching the end of his legendary career as a dragon-slayer. If you enjoy fantasy novels with lots of battles where men fight monsters with nothing but muscles, nerve, and wits (and, okay, bows and arrows), then you're going to be in for a treat."

Bitterwood by
James Maxey is now available to preorder.
Here are some of the great things people have had to say about the book:
In the distant future-year 1070 of the Dragon Age, to be exact-Earth has been commandeered by dragons, who subject their human inferiors to lives of misery and squalor, either as slaves or pets. Human Bant Bitterwood, consumed with thoughts of vengeance against the dragons he believes murdered his family, goes on a dragon-killing spree that makes him a folk hero among the oppressed human populace. When Bitterwood slays the dragons' crown prince, Bodiel, their king vows to exterminate humankind-the only way he "can be certain of victory over Bitterwood." To that end, the king enlists his murderous brother Blasphiel to build a city that will serve as humanity's abattoir. Maxey's world is stunningly imaginative, a landscape both familiar and alien, and packed with thoughtful treats for readers. Skillfully examining themes of faith, martyrdom and heroism, Maxey maintains an unflagging believability even while borrowing some of the most generic elements from science fiction and fantasy. The dragons are wonderfully written, as is the tormented hero; it is almost a shame that the story is so self-contained, as many readers will pine for a whole series of Dragon Age titles.
